This young man is not a marginal player--he's someone who could probably be making 10 million a year in a few more seasons---so he's giving up a lot.
This got me to thinking about others who have left promising careers to pursue a religious life--the one that comes immediately to mind is Dolores Hart, a promising actress who gave Elvis Presley his first onscreen kiss.
She's now the head sister in a cloistered nunnery---and, as a a member of the Motion Pictures Academy, still reviews and votes on movies for the Academy Awards.

I know that for many years, her loyal ex-boyfriend, whose name I can't recall, would visit her monthly.
