Wow, it really takes a lot to make my wife angry, but she is, so I thought I would blog about it.
3 weeks ago tomorrow, that is to say Thursday, February 19th, she visited the Advocate Family Medicine Practice at 3115 Route 38 in Mount Laurel, NJ.
She really likes the doctor there--she sees Dr. Coogan now, used to see Dr. Sharkey.
Dr. Coogan was really worried about her cholesterol history, and wrote her a prescription for a cholesterol medication. She's not thrilled to be taking them, and was hoping that the blood work they did that day would eliminate the need to take the medicine.
Well, a week went by with no call about the magic cholesterol number.
My wife starting taking the medicine, didn't like the side effects, and stopped taking the medicine.
She called, and was told that the blood results were in, but they were sitting in the Doctor's office.
Two weeks went by with no return call.
She called once again, left a message, and even asked to have the results faxed to my office (we can read the results ourselves :)
Nothing.
She called a 3rd time, left another message.
Nothing.
She called Monday, and was told that only the doctor can tell her the results. No one else, and the doctor isn't in the office until Tuesday.
Tuesday came and went---no phone call.
Today she drove to the office, and asked for the results.
They told her no. The doctor will be in on Thursday. He'll call her.
In desperation, she set up an appointment to see him next Tuesday. She naively believes that she will not be billed for this visit. I'm sure she will be. Was that the idea behind the delay all along---to require a follow up visit to get the results.
Tomorrow I'm visiting my doctor for my annual checkup.
If history repeats itself, I will have blood drawn tomorrow afternoon (Thursday) and sometime Friday afternoon, a nurse or receptionist at his office will call me to tell me what my PSA number is and also what my cholesterol number is.
Incredible.
